I was never holding $ETH, even before David Hoffman’s recent deep dive.
My capital was already positioned elsewhere, primarily in $TAO and $HYPE.
And after reviewing the argument, I find the core thesis difficult to ignore. 🧠
The problem isn't Ethereum the network.
The problem is Ethereum the asset.
Ethereum has arguably delivered on nearly every major technological promise it made. It secured billions in value, became the foundation for DeFi, NFTs, stablecoins, and tokenized assets, and remains one of the most important infrastructures in crypto.
But network success and asset performance are not always the same thing.
Ethereum was designed to provide secure, neutral blockspace. The challenge is that much of the economic value created on top of Ethereum is increasingly captured elsewhere.
Layer 2s capture revenue.
Applications capture revenue.
Stablecoins capture adoption.
Tokenized assets capture demand.
The network facilitates value creation, but the value does not necessarily flow back into $ETH itself.
Historically, smart-contract platform valuations have been closely linked to fee generation and economic dominance.
📈 $ETH dominated when it dominated fees.
📈 $SOL surged when activity and fees exploded.
📈 $NEAR benefited when ecosystem growth translated into stronger token economics.
Today, Ethereum remains critical infrastructure, but it no longer commands the same level of economic dominance it once did.
That creates a difficult question for investors:
Can network growth alone justify a major re-rating of the asset?
Stablecoins continue to expand.
Tokenized real-world assets continue to grow.
On-chain activity continues to increase.
Yet much of that growth strengthens the broader ecosystem more than it strengthens ETH's direct value capture.
That doesn't mean Ethereum is failing.
It means investors must distinguish between a successful network and an outperforming asset.
From a portfolio perspective, capital tends to flow where growth and value capture align.
And that debate may become one of the most important conversations in crypto.
